My Twitter bio breaks it down pretty succinctly:
Creator of @LIFECOACHERS. Written for The Daily Beast, New York Observer & Village Voice Media, etc. WILL WRITE FOR $$.
I began writing professionally 6 years ago. My work has also been published in tru TV’s Crime Library and CBS News’s Crimesider crime blog. Investigative work I published in Village Voice Media’s True Crime Report led to an appearance in a CBS 48 Hours Mystery about Phil Markoff, the Craigslist Killer. Previously, blogging I’d posted to one of my early true crime blogs led to a 2005 appearance on NBC’s Dateline in an episode about “fire fiend” Peter Braunstein (who, I am told by a mutual acquaintance, “speaks very highly” of me, which is both flattering and really unsettling). I’ve also guested on various crime-focused shows on MSNBC, Fox News and HLN.
Over a year ago I grew dissatisified with being identified as a true crime writer of any kind and decided to back away from that and branch out. It hasn’t been easy and I’ve often found myself, for lack of a better word, “blocked” as a writer. I did manage to find my way to Twitter, where I unintentionally gained a reputation for humor, which led to the creation of the group-authored LIFECOACHERS parody account, which is 27,000 followers and growing at this point. I’m a proud member of Witstream.com and have published comedy-related work with the Awl-affiliated comedy blog, Splitsider.
My personal blog/blog of weird news is on Tumblr; this is my blog about other stuff.
